Asha’s Refuge Apprentice & Compassionate Team Player
My full name is best kept confidential, but my friends call me Yare. I come from Nicaragua, a country rich in culture, boasting beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, and a sunny climate.
Nicaragua is home to many universities, lovely churches, and has produced many poets and musicians.
I grew up in a Christian home, raised by my mother and grandmother, who taught me valuable lessons about kindness, gratitude, humility, and loving others.
I earned a Bachelor’s Technical degree in Accounting and have skills in Human Relations and Conflict Management. I love poetry and fight for causes that seem hopeless.
When I arrived in Memphis, Tennessee, after my 90-day resettlement, I was alone, with many fears and more questions than answers, without friends or family.
That’s when Asha’s Refuge became my family. After feeling the love, support, and guidance from this ministry for newcomers, I knew I had found my place. The name Asha’s Refuge touched my heart.
I joined the staff, working in the financial department, as an interpreter, client advocate, and representative of the Hispanic community.
I truly believe that God brought me here to help and serve the community through this ministry.
Yare knows firsthand what it’s like to arrive in a new country with uncertainty, hopes, and dreams for her family’s future. As a former refugee, she’s worked tirelessly to learn new skills, grow in confidence, and give back to the very community that once helped her.
“After 90 days of my resettlement, I had no family, no friends…Asha’s Refuge became my family. I cannot imagine my life without Asha’s Refuge.”

Why We Need Your Help
Yare’s full-time role is vital to keeping our doors open and our programs thriving. But like many nonprofits, we rely on the generosity of people who believe in the power of transformation.
It costs about $174 per day to cover:
- Her wages and employment taxes
- The tools, materials, and communication resources she needs—like her phone, internet access, and office supplies—to serve clients effectively
That’s:
- $870 for one week
- $3,480 for one month
When you sponsor Yare’s role, you’re not just funding a position—you’re making it possible for a refugee-turned-leader to keep serving and inspiring others.
Be One of the Few to Keep Yare on Our Team
It costs $3,480 each month to keep Yare in her full-time role—including her pay, taxes, and the tools and materials she needs to serve clients.
We’re looking for just a handful of sponsors to make this possible:
- 3 sponsors at $1,160/month
- 5 sponsors at $696/month
- 10 sponsors at $348/month
- Or 30 sponsors at $116/month (about $29/week)
Whether you cover a day, a week, or a month, your gift will directly fund Yare’s work—helping hundreds of refugees and newcomers each year.
💙 Join Yare’s support team today—and keep hope alive for our community.
