In view of the current medical situation, the Asha’s Refuge leadership team has been praying while consulting available resources to make decisions that demonstrate our boldness of faith in Jesus as we also respectfully respond to our community of needs. Starting Tuesday, March 24, our office will be open to serve clients by appointment as usual. The Next Generation High School Education Program will continue as scheduled. We have determined, however, that it is best for us to close our American Life and Language classes, Kindergarten Readiness class, and Citizenship class for the remainder of this school year. Clients may call our office to make appointments for individual tutoring for Citizenship but are also encouraged to use resources online to study for any upcoming Naturalization test. We feel it is our responsibility to help reduce the exposure of illness to our most vulnerable clients. We are looking at options for small group summer activities and classes, so please watch for more news to come. Asha’s Refuge will still need your help to tutor and mentor clients one on one which we feel also aligns with our desire to become even more relational and intentional with our services. Please let us know if you would like to be on a list for individual client services.
Please be patient with us regarding our upcoming Taste of the Nations luncheon. Unfortunately, we are postponing the April 23 luncheon to a date forward but yet to be determined. We need your attendance, so please be watchful for the new date. The extra time before the event will allow us to better plan for it, so please watch for details about ways to be involved. The open house luncheon was also a fundraiser for Asha’s set during a spring season when our typical organizational funding seems to run low. Financial uncertainties during this time can truly challenge our families which will greatly affect nonprofits, churches and small businesses. Asha’s Refuge will continue to assist a very vulnerable population of people in our city. Please prayerfully and faithfully continue your regular giving while also considering if God has blessed you to give over and above your normal giving to help in any area that the nonprofit may have a lacking. Asha’s will work with a much smaller staff and volunteer team to do very similar amounts of work in our community. You can give through this link: Pushpay or via Paypal.
As always, our desire is to respond to God’s call to love our neighbor as ourselves by living and sharing the hope that we have in our sovereign God through Jesus Christ and the work He did on the cross to redeem us. How could we possibly back down from helping them now? This is a time when our clients may need us the most. It is NOT time to be fearful and take a break from the world, rather it is a time to “be still” in Christ while also individually running to the world with courage and boldness to tell them about the love, healing and hope message we have found in Jesus. We have even more of a chance to be intentional with our family and neighbors. We encourage very small group and two by two meetings with others during this time. We also encourage you to use technology for good, share your faith, daily lift up others, share positive stories and give God the glory. Let’s saturate the world around us for the sake of Jesus.
We are monitoring our phones, messages and Facebook page. Please reach out to us to share updates, prayer requests, comments, or other information you want us to be aware of. Please contact us at serve@ashasrefuge.org if you’d like to help or have questions. You may also contact us at 901-500-9200.
